It’s Time

When I began One Minnesota Crone, after years of writing as One Minnesota Writer, I came up with the tagline, Older women don’t disappear. They branch out.

It’s time for me to do just that. Branch out. I’ve been writing for a long time, as well as championing other women writers. Celebrating older women in particular was something that first surfaced for me when I was co-editor of Gyroscope Review and Constance Brewer and I hatched the now-annual Crone Issue. But my most recent hiatus from this space made me realize writing is no longer my main creative outlet.

There are so many art forms out there, all of them worthy of our attention. Photography has long been one of my interests. Painting, too. And if I don’t explore those further now, when will I?

The answer, of course, is to leap. Spread my limbs. See what happens.

It’s time for me to say goodbye to the work of producing a blog and give myself space and time for other art forms. Room to take classes and play and become proficient at something new. And, along with that, develop new ways to contribute something meaningful to the world. This is the last post for One Minnesota Crone.

The heart of any art is to share ideas that nudge others to consider what’s in front of them. I hope that One Minnesota Crone, and One Minnesota Writer before that, has indeed nudged those of you who’ve been reading my posts. I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to read, to subscribe, and to share what was offered here. This space was a haven at times, a place to consider what was happening in the world, to encourage compassion and kindness. And to the women who’ve agreed to be interviewed so their work can be more widely shared, thank you. I hope you all keep making beautiful work to send out to the world.

May we all keep branching out.
